Connecting people and resources for Christ’s ministries in Appalachia.

Become an ELCMA Appalseed

Dear Friends of ELCMA,

The mission of the Evangelical Lutheran Coalition for Mission in Appalachia is to “Connect People and Resources for Christ’s Ministries in Appalachia”.  We are often asked, “How can I be a part of this exciting ministry?”  There are three primary ways:  The first is to pray for ministry in Appalachia:  the second is to volunteer your time and your talents:  and a third way is to support ELCMA financially.

The Appalseed Program

John Chapman (1774-1845), more familiarly known as Johnny Appleseed, sold or gave apple seeds and seedlings to families migrating westward.  For over 40 years Johnny Appleseed wandered through Ohio, Indiana and western Pennsylvania, sowing apple seeds as he went, and visiting his forest nurseries to prune and care for the trees.  Johnny helped hundreds of settlers establish orchards of their own.

ELCMA is inviting you to join with many others in planting an APPALSEED that will bear fruit in the ministries of the Appalachian Region in much the same way that Johnny’s apple seeds did with settlers and their apple trees.  Join together with others committed to the growth of this region and become an APPALSEED today.

As an APPALSEED you will...

  • assist small congregations in rural, small town and urban settings in spreading the gospel.

  • provide additional training for seminary students preparing for their call in Appalachia.

  • connect church and community groups with resources that enhance outreach in their neighborhoods.

  • Enable folks in one part of the region to model effective methods for others doing similar ministries.

  • finance projects that would otherwise go unfounded

  • stretch resources and promote ideas to meet the ever growing needs in rural, small town and urban ministries.

  • join with brothers and sisters in  and beyond Appalachia as the Holy Spirit leads us to new ways of caring for one another.

  • be a part of “Connecting people and resources for Christ’s ministries in Appalachia.”
